Coonagh Utd vs Regional Utd
(U-14 League, 14-Nov-2009)
With the weather again playing havoc with fixtures we have just the one match to
report on again this week. Our U-14 girls, managed by Niall McCarthy, opened
their league campaign with an away fixture to Coonagh United and despite the 2-0
defeat it was a fine performance by the girls. We went behind 1-0 in the first
half but came back very strongly in the second half and were unlucky not to
score as both Eloise Hickey and Deirdre Cassidy went close. Towards the end of
the game, as we pressed forward for an equaliser, Coonagh caught us on the break
and scored a second goal despite the best efforts of Eva Carew and Aisling
Horan. We still continued to press forward and Ciara Lane and Rebecca Robinson
were again unlucky not to score and Coonagh held on to deny us a deserved
consolation goal. All our girls played their hearts out and can take great pride
from their efforts. Other outstanding performances came from Sarah Carew in
goal, Aileen McDermott, Sophie Libum, Una Real, Niamh Deery, Megan Horan and our
man-of-the-match Anna Ryan.
